Area-wide observances for Armed Forces Day are planned in at least three communities including Fallon.

The fifth annual Fallon Armed Forces Day is slated for May 17 at the Rafter 3C Complex, 255 Sheckler Road.

The event’s hours are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. A free lunch will be provided to U.S. military and veterans as well as to first responders. Armed Forces Day will also feature crafters, vendors, food, live music and more.

The public is invited to an Armed Forces Day in Sparks on May 17 from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. The event will be held at the American Legion Post building on 730 4th St.

There will be a military tributes exhibit, military vehicles displays, Junior ROTC demonstrations, free kid activities, food and live music, silent auction and raffles.

Hawthorne, 70 miles south of Fallon, has been celebrating Armed Forces Day for more than seven decades. Every year, the third weekend of May means the citizens of America's Patriotic Home come out in full force by bringing with them family, friends and many others from near and far to honor all those who are serving and have served in the United States armed forces.
