Carson High School Pioneer Campus is pleased and honored to celebrate Kira Bant as this month’s Senior Spotlight. Bant began high school at Carson High, decided a change was needed going into 10th grade and enrolled in Carson Online. The experience was not quite what she expected, and her academic performance suffered.
She realized what she needed was a combination of online courses, in-person courses to match her strengths and get the support in courses that were a bit more challenging. Since switching to a hybrid schedule, Bant has excelled academically and regained her confidence in what she can achieve. Her teachers have seen a transformation from a student who was hesitant to participate in class to a bubbly, soft-spoken student willing to engage in the daily discussions.
Pioneer English and Spanish teacher Rebecca Allen said Bant embodies the expression “Still waters run deep.”
“Though Kira is soft-spoken, the ideas that come out in her writing show that she thinks deeply about topics that come up in literature and how those ideas connect to the world,” Allen said. “Kira’s interests in history and literature have sparked her desire to be conscious of the world and participate in activism to better her community.”
Bant stated she was glad she changed schools and when asked if there was anyone who stood out for helping her, she didn’t hesitate with the compliments.
“My mom, my aunt and my grandma have given me advice, encouraged me and been inspirations in my life,” she said. “At school, the teachers helped me achieve my goals by being there for me and encouraging me to be my best. Mrs. Gingrich teaching math so I understand it, Mrs. Allen’s patience, Mrs. Bean’s warmth, Mr. Echebarria’s creative lectures and Ms. Cantley and Ms. Tirado’s engaging lessons made going to school enjoyable.”
Bant is looking forward to attending Western Nevada College next year, then transferring to a university to pursue a career in the medical field. The faculty and staff at Pioneer will miss Kira, but they are excited to see what Kira does next.
