Track: Fallon qualifiers ready for 3A regional finals

A handful of Greenwave track and field competitors qualified for this weekend’s Class 3A Northern Region meet in Minden.

The top four finishers at the region meet advance to the state meet in Las Vegas next week.

For the boys, Bransyn Wright, Nathaniel Bianchi, Tejae Edie and Joseph Romero competed in last weekend’s trials in Minden, placing in the top eight to advance to the regional finals, which are on Friday and Saturday at Douglas High School.

Wright finished sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.44 seconds, and Bianchi was fifth in the 400 in 54.32. Edie qualified in the pole vault after a mark of 10 feet, and Romero advanced in both the shot put and discus events. Romero threw 139 feet to finish third in the discus and 43-0.75 to take fifth in the shot put.

Jarett Ugalde Torres will run in the 3200, which was not contested in the trials.

Of those who didn’t make the cut, Wyatt Dixon was 0.06 seconds shy in the 200. In the long-distance running events, William James Lofthouse placed 18th in the 800, while Leo Arcoraci placed 23rd and Torres placed 25th.

Rylan Clark finished 13th in the long jump and Kenyon Wilson was 15th in the triple. Jason Lewis placed 36th in the shot put followed by Carter McBee in 39th. Lewis also placed 28th in the shot put and McBee finished 35th.

For the girls, McKenzee Peterson was the only individual to qualify for the regional finals after finishing fourth in the pole vault at 7 feet.

Lillian Souza finished 24th in the 200 and 26th in the 100, while Taylor Perry finished 25th in the 200 and 27th in the 100. Tommie Fitzer finished 18th in the 300 hurdles and 19th in the 800. Karmen Alcantar was 14th in the 100 hurdles.

The relay races were not contested in the trials. Fallon will race in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 for the boys, and 4x100 and 4x400 for the girls.

All three boys relay teams include Bianchi, Clark and Dixon. Wright will run in the 4x100 and Lofthouse will run in the 4x400.

Peterson, Fitzer, Souza and Perry will run in both of the girls relay races.


3A JV CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fallon finished third (boys) and fourth (girls) in last Monday’s 3A JV Championship track and field meet at North Valleys High School.

South Tahoe won both divisions with 121 points in the boys and 141.5 points in the girls. Fallon finished with 98 points in the boys division and 75 in the girls.

The following are top-eight results for Fallon:


SPRINTS

Boys: Arad Duenas placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 24.92 seconds and sixth in the 100 in 12.15.

Girls: Lillian Souza finished eighth in the 100 in 14.33, and Tommie Fitzer was second in the 400 in 1:08.27 and sixth in the 200 in 29.90.


DISTANCE

Boys: Leo Aroraci finished second in the 1600 in 5:21.52 and third in the 3200 in 12:28.71. Lars Rasmussen finished third in the 1600 in 5:25.55, fourth in the 800 in 2:26.93 and fourth in the 3200 in 13:04.94. Zander Lewis finished eighth in the 3200 in 14:11.70.

Girls: Fitzer finished second in the 800 in 2:48.03 followed by Kylee Moore in fourth at 3:00.76.


HURDLES

Boys: Vernon Harper finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in 48.68 after taking ninth in the 110 hurdles.

Girls: Karman Alcantar finished second in the 100 hurdles in 18;46 followed by Moore in sixth at 20.28. Arabella Berry finished eighth in the 300 hurdles in 1:06.43.


RELAYS

Boys: Fallon finished fourth in the 4x800 relay in 10:27.01 and fifth in the 4x400 relay in 4:48.27.

Girls: The 4x400 team finished third in 5:27.22.


THROWS

Boys: Jason Lewis finished third in the discus with a throw of 101 feet, 1 inches, and fourth in the shot put at 36-5.5.

Girls: Katelyn Glinka won the shot put with a mark of 27-8.75 followed by Hannah Hanks in eighth at 21-0.75. Glinka finished second in the discus at 82-2 and Hanks was fifth at 76-9.


JUMPS

Boys: Harper finished fifth in the high jump at 4-10 followed by Jaeshon Pearson and Dion Gocong, who tied for sixth at 4-8. Kenyon Wilson finished second in the triple jump at 35-6.5 and fourth in the long at 16-2. Gocong finished fifth in the long jump at 15-11, and Edie was sixth in the triple at 33-0.75.


POLE VAULT

Boys: Tejae Edie took second at 10 feet.

Girls: Berry won the event at 6 feet, and Sorensen finished third at 5-6.
