Tour of homes: Tour of local homes sponsored by the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Women’s Auxiliary will be between 2 and 5 p.m. Homes to be inspected are Rinckel Mansion; Dick Graves home on Mountain and Robinson streets; John Savage’s home at the south end of Thompson; Gene Sharrow’s home at 25 Popular St. and Burton Ladd’s home at Stewart. Tickets for the event are $1 and will be available at any of the homes on Sunday. Refreshments will be served at the Ladd Home.

The Salamander: His regular salamandering took place at the Carson Theater. He is a 15th Amendment Salamander and a fire eater. He stood upon the stage, a stalwart African with bare hands, arms, feet and legs, and sucked hot iron and rubbed hot iron all over his arms and rammed a red hot shoe shape down his gullet. This is a caution to people who are not Salamanders. He does all and more than advertised.

A square liquor seller: Barkeepers mix more ice than liquor in the glasses. You take a sip and the wine is gone. The ice is then thrown back into a box to be used on the next customer. Livingston’s has invented an apparatus that keeps the bottle cold, and the wine he sells needs no ice. This gives the customer a square deal when “winding the mellow horn.”

Disastrous fire: A disastrous and extensive fire broke out in Virginia City. The origin of the fire was in Rosenbaum’s furniture store on B Street, and the entire store and contents were entirely consumed. The adjoining hotel was saved, but the Masonic Hall is much damaged, the roof having caught fire. Williams & Bixler’s building was on fire at one stage of the conflagration but escaped serious injury. At Buckner & Redding the loss was very heavy, their saloon having been drenched. The firemen accomplished wonders — $60,000 of property destroyed.

The ball and chain: One of the tramps sentenced by Justice Gaige to 30 days in the county jail is working in the streets with a ball and chain attached to his leg. When the tramp was sentenced, he turned around and said: “The court can go to hell.” Sheriff Crisler considering him a hard lot, concluded to make him do a little light street work for the municipality.

The wink: The ladies say that John Kersey is out of sight as an auctioneer. Every time a woman winks at him, he thinks it’s a bid, and every woman who looks at him, he thinks is winking.

A band of musicians: They were uniformed and evincing excellent training. They numbered six instruments and went from place to place making charming music. As to who they are and where they came from, we only know that they are Germans, and that they were recently perambulating Sacramento doing the same sort of Troubadour business that engage them here.

Thief: Sheriff Kinney was roused up a few nights ago by someone at his wood pile. He saw a woman lugging off an armful of wood. He was in his night gown and too modest to follow her.

New high school: Site for the new Carson High School was selected and an agreement for purchase made with John D Winters at a meeting of the Ormsby County board of trustees. It will be located on the north side of West King Street above Winters Drive, two blocks west of the present high school, contain 20 acres and ample room for expansion.
