Churchill County High School’s commencement ceremony is Friday at 7 p.m. with a livestream of the ceremony available on the Churchill County School District Facebook page.

The 257 seniors, including co-valedictorians Halle Johnson and Brody Hughes, will receive their diplomas at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex. Additionally, Alexis Haggard, Megan Johnson, Luis Lopez Pinuelas, Dru MacKay, Drake Reid, Braden Sorensen, Kylan Sorensen, Wyatt Sorensen, Mason Storm and Dallin West are Greenwave Scholars who have achieved a 4.8+ GPA.

Capt. Michael Haymon, commanding officer at Naval Air Station Fallon, will deliver the keynote address. Haymon became commander in March. A 1998 graduate of Washington State University, he was commissioned as an ensign in 2001 and designated a naval flight officer two years later. His career has included operational and leadership positions.

Haymon’s sea and operation duty assignments during the past 27 years have included squadron department head, Squadron One; commanding officer of Patrol Squadron (VP-26); and commander of Task Group 67. Haymon deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and parking passes are required for the high school’s Merton Drive parking lot adjacent to the main building. Golf cart shuttle assistance to the field will be available from all locations.

General seating is available in the grandstands and only ticketholder guests will be allowed on the football field. High-heeled shoes, gum, sunflower seeds and similar small snacks and all beverages other than water are strictly prohibited on the new football field turf.

After the ceremony, graduates will recess to the practice field where family and friends may join them for celebrations and photos. Four designated pickup stations will be clearly marked with large red flags for the golf cart parking lot return shuttles.

Superintendent Derild Parsons expressed his pride for the graduating seniors in his recent weekly update.

“All those early mornings, late nights and countless hours of hard work are about to pay off,” Parsons said. “You are standing on the edge of something incredible. You will walk across the stage to receive your diploma – a milestone that marks not just the end of high school, but the beginning of everything you’ve been working toward. This is your moment to shine. You’ve earned this and we are all so proud of you.”

Adult education program: The Churchill County Adult Education program is having its graduation Thursday at the CCHS auditorium. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m.

According to Chantelle R. Redner, the adult education’s program director, 27 students will receive their diploma. Churchill County native and high-school counselor Amanda Lister will be the speaker for this year’s ceremony.
