Having planned to retire at the end of May, Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon is staying until the end of June as the city searches for his replacement with a new city manager, the city’s executive office confirmed Wednesday.
On May 15, the Board of Supervisors selected Glen Martel as the city’s next manager pending contract negotiations.
Unlike the city manager position, the fire chief is hired internally.
“Interviews with candidates will be happening soon, and the finalists will be narrowed down for the new city manager to select from or not,” said the city’s Community Relations Coordinator James Salanoa.
Slamon became the sixth fire chief in the city’s history in 2017. Before that, he served Modesto, California, for 28 years.
He announced his retirement in December.
“My greatest accomplishment has been working with outstanding teams, from administrative staff to fire personnel,” Slamon said at the time. “There is no more extraordinary accomplishment than making a difference in someone's life; you do that daily. For that, I say thank you.”
The range of the annual salary for the position is $128,483.89 to $205,574.51, according to the city’s human resources department.
