Basket making workshop June 13 at Nevada State Museum in Carson City

The Nevada State Museum’s Family Fun Saturday series is hosting a basket making workshop, in which visitors can make a coiled basket stitched together with colorful yards or a twined basket made of reeds, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13.

The event is geared adults and children ages 10 and up. The program also includes a tour of the museum’s “Under One Sky” exhibit, which offers a look at American Indian life in Nevada.

Registration, which is required, is open through June 12. The cost to attend is $10 per person, a fee that covers materials.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Participants are asked to bring an old towel, water and a sack lunch. If participants do not complete their basket in the allotted time, they will still go home with enough materials and instructions to successfully complete it.

Museum admission is free for members and children 17 and younger. Adult admission is $8. The museum is at 600 N. Carson St.
