Carson City Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada college hosting star lecture Saturday
Spend Saturday evening at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory, 2699 Van Patten Drive, to learn about great discoveries in the night sky.
Professional lecturer Mike Thomas will share the discoveries made in astronomy since Galileo first used a telescope to observe the night sky. A number of Hubble Space Telescope images are included in the presentation.
Thomas has been giving lectures at the observatory for the past decade and has served as president of the Western Nevada Astronomical Society for seven years.
When lectures aren’t scheduled, the observatory is open to the public from sundown to 11 p.m. on Saturdays. The Western Nevada Astronomical Society hosts sky viewing for anyone with an interest in astronomy.
Doors to the observatory open at 6 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. lecture. Admission is free.
