Kleiner presents research at Whitman College

Evan Kleiner of Gardnerville presented a project titled “A Congressional Redistricting Algorithm” at the annual Whitman Undergraduate Conference.

The conference celebrates the scholarship and creativity of the Whitman student body through a day devoted entirely to original presentations through talks, posters presentations, musical performances and artistic exhibitions. More than 200 students shared their work at this year’s conference, covering a wide array of subject matters. Presentations and demonstrations of original achievement come through course work, study abroad, senior theses, summer research, fellowships and internships.

Kleiner is currently a junior math major at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.

Kortemeier makes dean’s list at Furman University

Emma Kortemeier was recently named to the spring 2013 dean’s list at Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

The list is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system.

Kortemeier is the daughter of Curtis and Winifred Kortemeier of Carson City.

Guiney-Olsen graduates from UMW in Virginia

Krysta R. Guiney-Olsen of Virginia City graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.

A total of 1,273 students graduated during the university’s 102nd commencement in a graduate ceremony on May 10 and in an undergraduate ceremony on May 11. Public policy expert and former Virginia superintendent of education Dr. William “Bill” Cleveland Bosher Jr. delivered the commencement address for graduate students and business executive, author and motivational speaker Steve Pemberton gave the undergraduate commencement address.
