Emergency notification system available to Lyon County residents
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has a new reverse 911 system called CodeRED that sends information about developing emergencies to residents’ phones.
The system is capable of sending messages to either residents on specific streets, in neighborhoods or the entire community.
CodeRED is only used when emergency situations arise that residents should know about, such as evacuations, missing or lost persons, fires or floods, significant criminal situations, chemical spills or gas leaks.
The Sheriff’s Office has used it during recent police operations, missing juveniles, and during flooding in January.
To register a cellphone for emergency alerts, go to https://public.coderedweb.com/cne/7589ADE0401F.
A CodeRED message will have a caller ID 866-419-5000. Officials suggest residents program the number into their cell phone and use “CodeRED” as the contact name. To replay an emergency notification message, dial the number and you will be able to hear the message again.
