How you can give back this holiday season

Friends to All seeks names and addresses of seniors who would enjoy a visit from Santa on Dec. 13. Donations of cash, crossword puzzle books (large print, if possible), slipper socks, gloves, hats, scarves, handkerchiefs, lotions, lip balm, calendars, packaged small food items such as candy, cookies, or nuts, gift cards from grocery or gift stores, hair salons, barbershops, or restaurants that deliver, and anything a senior may be able to use, are needed. Cash donations are used to buy grocery store gift cards for seniors in need. Checks can be made payable to Retired Senior Volunteer Program, or RSVP, with a notation of "Friends to All." Mail or drop donations to A-plus Paralegals, Inc., 411 W. Third St., Suite 1, Carson City 89703. Body by Pilates, 308 N. Plaza St., is collecting food and unwrapped gifts through Dec. 10 for its Adopt a Family program that helps struggling families during the holidays. Call 775-841-4900.
Pairs of new socks are needed through Christmas for Socks for Seniors, an annual community service project that distributes new socks to seniors in nursing homes. Go to http://www.socksforseniors.com/register.html.

Fighters Against Child Abuse needs new clothing, socks, underwear, coats, toys, and gift cards for abused, neglected and at-risk children in Carson, Douglas and Lyon counties. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada's Adopt a Family program gives gifts during the holidays to its underprivileged members and their families. The club provides donors with information about the families, then cash or wrapped gifts can be delivered to the club, 1870 Russell Way, by Dec. 19.
