Teri Sweeney Studios in Gardnerville is offering two beginning painting workshops this month.

A day long introduction to watercolor will take students through the basics of watercolor painting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 23.

The workshop, taught by Ann Proffitt, is being held under the direction of Teri Sweeney. Various techniques will be practiced and then applied to a painting of daisies, which students will complete at the session. The cost is $75 per person.

A six-week introduction to oil painting workshop will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 13, and continue from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays through February. The oil paining workshop will walk students through the steps involved in creating an oil painting, as well as provide information about the use of oil painting supplies. The cost is $150 per person.

A reference photograph and a drawing to trace will be provided in both workshops. For $10, materials will be provided to any students who would like to give painting a try but are uncertain about investing in painting supplies.

Proffitt and Sweeney teach weekly painting classes in oil and watercolor in Gardnerville and South Lake Tahoe. Sweeney is a nationally recognized artist whose work has been displayed in shows such as the C. M. Russell Auction in Montana and Cowgirl Up! and the Settlers West American Miniatures show in Arizona. Her work can be seen at http://www.tsart.org. Proffitt has been a student of Sweeney’s and has shown her work locally and at the Draft Horse Classic in Grass Valley, Calif.

Both workshops will be at Teri Sweeney Studios in Gardnerville. For more information about either workshop or to register, contact Sweeney at 775-790-9261 or terisweeneyart@hotmail.com.
