In collaboration with North Tahoe Arts, Trails & Vistas is putting on two free workshops geared to empower participants to create art that could be displayed along the path of the T&V Art Hikes.

Creativity of the Heart with international artist Susie Alexander will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 11 at Rideout Community Center, where the artist will talk about painting the human experience on canvas with acrylics.

A Tahoe resident for over 20 years, Alexander is a mural and fine artist with commissions in the U.S., Europe, and Central America. Her workshop is geared toward beginners, or anyone who feels they are uncreative. Art created at this workshop will have the opportunity to be installed on the Trails & Vistas Art Hikes.

Environmental Art Installation, a two-day workshop with Jane Jenny, will be Sept. 9-10 at Carnelian Bay and at the T&V Art Hike at Spooner summit. The session focuses on repurposing natural materials to create a site specific installation inspired by the controlled burn rings. The first day will be in her Carnelian Bay studio where participants will work together to create an art piece using natural materials from local forests and inspired by the controlled burn rings at Spooner Lake. The final piece will be installed along the Spooner Art Hike. No experience is required for this workshop, which celebrates the stewardship of local forests and the symbiotic relationship between people and nature. Jenny has taught art classes all over the world, from Argentina to Kenya and all over the U.S.

Both workshops are made possible by a grant from the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, and are a collaboration between Trails & Vistas and North Tahoe Arts. For more information, go to www.northtahoearts.com. To register, contact Sue Gross at workshops@northtahoearts.com.
