University of Nevada Cooperative Extension offering pest control workshop Feb. 3
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and Nevada Department of Agriculture are offering a free workshop on Feb. 3 to cover how to use pesticides to control vertebrate pests found in Northern Nevada. The workshop is geared for certified applicators and those who regularly handle pesticides as part of their jobs, such as farmers, ranchers, park employees and grounds keepers. Attendees will receive continuing education units.
The training, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Cooperative Extension offices in Reno, Eureka, and Winnemucca, also will be available via interactive video at 10 other Cooperative Extension locations, including Carson City, Gardnerville, Yerington and Fallon.
The workshop is not intended to help those who have not yet been certified to prepare for the Certified Pesticide Applicator exam, which will be offered at 8 a.m. Feb. 4 at the Cooperative Extension office in Eureka, and at 1 p.m. at the office in Winnemucca. The exam costs $50, cash or check only, with checks payable to the Nevada Department of Agriculture. Exams are also given weekly at the Nevada Department of Agriculture offices in Sparks and Las Vegas by appointment only.
The exam’s study manual is available for $15 at Cooperative Extension. It can be downloaded for free at http://www.nevadapesticideeducation.com.
