Brief: ground water CD

A spatial groundwater data base for Carson Valley is now available on compact disc.

The digital groundwater database was developed to assist the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection in implementing a comprehensive groundwater monitoring and database management system. The CD-ROM was prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection.

The CD-ROM includes information for 48 groundwater monitoring sites and associated groundwater level contour data representing water table conditions for April and May 1998 in Carson Valley. The digital groundwater information can be used in environmental modeling applications and for projecting how vulnerable shallow aquifers are to contamination. The CD-ROM describes methods and procedures to develop spatial groundwater data bases using geographic information systems.

The CD-Rom titled “Spatial Ground-Water Data Base for Carson Valley, Douglas County, Nevada and Alpine County, California – Development and Documentation,” By David L. Berger and Rose L. Medina, is U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources Investigations Report 99-4188.

It is available for inspection at the Douglas County Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden and the U.S. Geological Survey Offices in Carson City, 333 W. Nye Lane, Room 10.

The CD-ROM may be purchased at cost from the U.S. Geological Survey, Information Services, Box 25286, Denver, CO 80225-0286 (telephone 1-888-ASK-USGS). Call for ordering information.
