Bryan helps block weakened the National Guard
WASHINGTON – Sens. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., and Kit Bond, R-Mo., say they have successfully blocked further reductions to the Army National Guard.
The plan by the Department of Defense would have reduced the guard by 12,500 soldiers in the 2001 budget request.
“It is absolutely imperative that the Army National guard has the personnel and resources they need to do their difficult jobs,” Bryan said.
Bond added that a majority of the Senate agrees there should be no further cuts in the guard, which has been chopped back 17,000.
