$3.1 million in job contracts announced for D&D Roofing
D&D Roofing and Sheet Metal announced it has new contracts for $3.1 million in new jobs, including a project at the Carson Mall.
Other projects include the Boys & Girls Club, Fire Station No. 12, National Bowling Center, Golden Gate Petroleum, Atlantic Aviation, Five Start Residence, VA Health Clinic, UNR Valley Road Apartments and Hobby Lobby in Reno, as well as Galaxy Theatres in Sparks and the State Historic Park in Bodie, Calif.
D & D Roofing and Sheet Metal is 100 percent owned by its employees, with headquarters in Sparks and offices in Carson City, Elko and Susanville, Calif.
NV Energy gives about $5.4M to nonprofits statewide
NV Energy and its charitable foundation contributed about $5.4 million last year to support nearly 500 nonprofit organizations throughout the state.

Grants and sponsorships were given to 228 nonprofit organizations in Northern Nevada, including the University of Nevada, Reno, Foundation; The Nature Conservancy; Boy Scouts of America's Nevada Area Council; Nevada STEM Coalition and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. In Southern Nevada, grants and sponsorships went to 269 nonprofits, including University of Nevada, Las Vegas, College of Southern Nevada and Nevada State College foundations; the Clark County School District Public Education Foundation; Teach for America; The Smith Center for Performing Arts and the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada.
NV Energy employees volunteered 44,830 hours of their time to help the nonprofits. Grants were funded by the company, not customers, a news release states. For more information, go to nvenergy.com/community.
Loan growth reached positive territory last year
According to a report by the Nevada Credit Union League, credit union loan growth in the state reached into the positive territory for the first time since 2007, posting a 0.6 percent increase.
Nevada credit unions saw another uptick in savings, with a 0.5 percent increase in the fourth quarter of 2013, finishing the year with a 3.2 percent increase. Used auto, unsecured personal loans and credit cards finished last year with increases of 13.6 percent, 5.4 percent and 4.8 percent.
The state's credit unions reported regular savings account balances grew by 9 percent at year-end 2013, while checking account balances grew by 0.9 percent and money market balances grew by 2 percent year over year.
The report is compiled from credit unions representing 33 percent of all federally insured Nevada credit unions that collectively serve 55 percent of the members and manage 45 percent of the assets reported by such institutions throughout the state.
