City manager, expansion on tap for NBC breakfast
Nick Marano, Carson City’s new city manager, is billed as the featured speaker on Wednesday, June 18, at a breakfast meeting of Nevada Business Connections.
Also on the agenda for the 8 a.m. event is an announcement regarding a regional expansion, which will be made by a “special guest manufacturer,” said Kris Holt, executive director of the private-sector business development organization. NBC meets in Carson City at the Gold Dust West Resort and Casino. Holt said the contributions of the late former Mayor Marv Teixeira also will be recognized during the meeting.
“We also will have a tribute to Carson City’s Marv Teixeira, the man who helped develop Carson City into the manufacturing center of the state,” Holt said.
Teixeira, a three-term mayor who left office in early 2009, died last Thursday at age 79.
Announcement of his death came during a Board of Supervisors meeting, which happened to be the first for Marano as the new chief executive heading city government staff. The city manager from his start on Monday, June 2, has been getting to know city staff, residents, community leaders and members of organizations such as NBC. NBC is a regional membership business group which meets in Carson City and Reno in alternating monthly sessions.
Hosting the NBC breakfast, for which doors open at 7:30 a.m., will be Ray Bacon, director of the Nevada Manufacturers Association. Cost for the breakfast meeting is $25 for members and students with valid Nevada System of Higher Eduction identification, $35 for guests. A table for eight is available for companies or organizations at a cost of $200.
