Click Bond test engineer Olga Ortiz honored with STEP award
Olga Ortiz of Click Bond, Inc., a manufacturing firm based in Carson City, will be recognized Thursday by the Manufacturing Institute for excellence in manufacturing.
The STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Awards honor 130 women nationally and internationally for demonstrating excellence and leadership in their careers, and the award winners represent all levels of industry.
Ortiz, a test engineer, will be recognized at a reception in Washington, D.C., for accomplishments that include being among the first female machine operators and her recent promotion to test engineer.
These are the third annual STEP Awards.
Ortiz also is being recognized for her trip to the annual manufacturing summit last summer at which she met with Sen. Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who then was majority leader, on the issue of immigration reform.
“We chose to honor these women,” said Jennifer McNeely, institute president, “because they each made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole.”
The STEP Awards are part of a larger STEP Ahead initiative launched to examine and promote the role of women in manufacturing. The awards focus on attraction, development, advancement and retention of high potential female talent.
