Contractors Board awards $83K in 9 cases
LAS VEGAS (AP) – A Nevada State Contractors Board panel has awarded nine homeowners a total of almost $83,000 from a fund designed to compensate them for damage by licensed contractors.
A board statement says the awards were made Wednesday from its Residential Recovery Fund, after investigations.
The fund was established by the Nevada Legislature in 1999 to offer protection to single-family owner-occupants whose homes are damaged by licensed construction, remodeling, repair or improvement contractors.
Funding comes from an assessment paid by licensed residential contractors and sub-contractors.
The board says contractors are required by law to provide information to homeowners about the Residential Recovery Fund before signing a contract to do work.
A single claim can’t exceed $35,000, and claims against a single contractor can’t exceed $400,000.
