Don Quilici

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City Field Office has announced the April 28, 2006 noon opener of the BLM campground adjacent to Indian Creek Reservoir in Alpine County, California.

Paved access is provided by Airport Road from Calif. S.R. 4 & S.R. 89, about mid-way between Woodfords and Markleeville.

Fees for camping will be the same as in 2005 and are similar with other comparable facilities in the area.

Indian Creek Campground is one of the best federal campground values in the Sierra Nevada with hot showers, flush toilets, an RV sanitary dump station, paved roads and parking sites, and bear-proof storage lockers available at each site.

A BLM maintenance technician and camp hosts are on-site during the camping season.

Other facilities at Indian Creek Reservoir include a boat launching area, day use picnic area, three loop interpretive trail system and over 8 miles of hiking trails.

The following fee schedule shows the fees for the 2006 camping season:

RV/Tent Single Site (13): $20.00 per night

RV/Tent Double Site (6): $32.00 per night

Tent Area Single Site (6): $14.00 per night

Tent Area Double Site (4): $20.00 per night

Group Area: $50.00 per night

Showers: For Paying Campers ONLY

The main camp area has 19 sites that accommodate RV and tent campers on a non-reservation basis.

Six of these 19 sites are considered “double” occupancy sites since they have two parking spots, two tent pads and two picnic tables.

This area has flush toilets, hot showers and drinking water.

Bear proof-storage lockers are available at each site.

The walk-in tent area, located south of the main camp area, has ten sites that can accommodate up to 15 tents (15 pads) on a non-reservation basis.

Four of the 10 tent sites are considered “double” occupancy sites since they have two tent pads and two picnic tables.

Sanitary facilities in this area include vault toilets and potable water.

Bear proof-storage lockers are available at each site.

With advanced reservations, a group of up to 40 people may camp in the Group Campsite that accommodates tents only.
