One of Carson City’s oldest annual traditions is here.
The 62nd Community Thanksgiving Feast is Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Carson Nugget Casino Hotel’s Grand Ballroom.
Hosted by the Nugget, Friends in Service Helping (FISH), and the Hop & Mae Adams Foundation, the free event welcomes all.
“This tradition is the largest and longest running community event in Carson City history,” said Dean DiLullo, Nugget owner and general manager. “The Carson Nugget’s staff and management, along with many members of the community, volunteer their time to serve the wonderful people of Carson City. The feast is absolutely free and open to the public.”
The event serves turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie and all the Thanksgiving fixings to about 1,000 people each year. In addition, about 200 baskets of food are delivered to homebound residents, mostly seniors. FISH donates 100 frozen turkeys from their “High Five Turkey Drive” while the Nugget kitchen staff does all of the cooking and washes all of the dishes, according to Jim Peckham, executive director, FISH.
“Local dignitaries from the mayor, sheriff, city manager and volunteers from across the community help to serve up to 1,000 guests who don’t have anyone to spend Thanksgiving with,” said Peckham. “This is one of two days that the FISH Family Dining Room is closed, the other is Nevada Day when the Nugget serves free chili.”
