Carson City public bus system gets $445,000 grant
The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded more than $7.9 million to expand and improve public bus transportation systems in Nevada.
The funding includes $455,000 for the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, both D-Nv., announced the grants Friday saying the money will be used to help finance purchases of buses and related equipment as well as rehabilitation and constructing bus-related facilities.
“Investments that increase access to public transportation help working Nevadans contribute to our economy across our state,” they said in a joint statement.
In addition to the Carson City bus system grant, the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe will received $59,525.
The majority of the funding, however, went to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada — a total of $7,475,000.
