Sierra Pacific Power announces rate cut for Northern Nevada
Sierra Pacific Power Co., has filed a rate case with the Public Utilities Commission that will reduce Northern Nevada electric rates by $5 million.
Doug Cannon, head of the utility’s parent company NV Energy, said this will be the third time in six years the utility has filed to either reduce or keep rates flat. The 2013 and 2016 general rate cases resulted in a combined $42 million revenue reduction and left rates at their lowest level in a decade. Another reduction of $24.9 million in gas and electric customer rates was implemented in 2017 as a result of the federal tax reductions approved by Congress and the president.
“We have been able to deliver to our customers lower rates while bringing even more renewable energy to our state and that provides significant benefits to the communities we serve,” said Cannon.
