Dance program thanks community for supporting ‘Dancing for Donations’
Thank you Carson City, Reno and South Lake Tahoe for supporting the World Dance Open Floor’s “Dancing for Donations” at Comma Coffee.
We raised $107 for the arts programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada.
A huge thank you goes to these dazzling dancers who performed this month: Yolanda Sultana (Carson City); Zahara (Reno); the Babylon Babes (Carson City); Yasmina La Roche & Troupe Jasmine (Reno); Aminah (South Lake Tahoe); Diamond Dust (Carson City); Sarah (Carson City); Namira (South Lake Tahoe); Yalla Habibi (Reno); and Starr (Carson City).
Thank you Colleen Hillman of Bridger Mountain Trading Company for running the raffle and providing all the prizes; June Joplin and the Comma Coffee crew for giving us superior service in an art-loving atmosphere; and to the amazing audience who showed up and gave so generously so that our children will have access to the arts.
On May 16 we will be dancing for donations for Strings in the Schools.
By supporting children’s arts programs we are making tomorrow better.
Water treatment plant tour an eye-opener
The class studying “The History of Carson City” at Western Nevada College instructed by Eileen Cohen, went on a field trip March 26 to the secured Carson City Water Treatment Plant in Kings Canyon.
The tour, which opened the eyes of the 15 students, was conducted by Rit Palmer, Public Works Operations, Chief, Water, through the building housing the plant. (Incidentally, the building was immaculate which one does not expect in an industrial area.)
Brandon Mathiesen, Project Operation, was also in attendance that day. Palmer explained the purpose of the servicing pipes being color coordinated and how treatment of the water supply for Carson City is accomplished.
The expertise, enthusiasm and dedication of Palmer was greatly appreciated by the class and we all send our gratitude to him for spending the time to educate us concerning this important part of Carson City history. Thank you.
