Classrooms offer thank you to Carson City Sheriff’s Department

On behalf of Bordewich-Bray’s first and second grade classrooms, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Sheriff’s Department for going the extra mile.

They escorted more than 200 of our first and second grade students, teachers and chaperones on our walk from the school to the Carson City Community Center and back. Everyone involved from the sheriff’s department was kind, patient and accommodating.

Thank you again for setting a positive example for our students and for keeping us safe.

Carson Middle School recognizes those who helped promotion ceremony

The Carson Middle School Celebration Committee and PTA would like to acknowledge the many individuals and businesses for making the 8th grade promotion and celebration a huge success.

A special thank you to Helen Wiemer and the staff at the Governor’s Mansion for inviting the 8th grade students back after all these years. Celebrating at the mansion made this an event to remember.

Joe Tonino at The Sausage Factory once again came through for us and the Carson City Kiwanis Club, headed by Bryan Bibee, kept the grill fired up. Jamba Juice’s smoothie donations were a hit. Thank you also to the following for their food/drink contributions: Trader Joe’s, CVS, The Dollar Store, Madeline’s Cookies, Subway, Nancy Boehmer, Jack Luhrs, Sonic, and Save Mart-east. Thank you also to Jeff Justice for his snazzy art work for the picture taking areas and Mr. and Mrs. Greenlee for their time and effort in creating the dog tags for the students.

Thank you for the very generous donation from Keith Sulprizio at United Engine and Machine Co. Other business contributions include Rupert’s Auto Body, The Purple Avocado, Mary’s About Face, Precision CV, Raley’s, Safeway, Smith’s, Spooner Lake Concessions, GNCU, Miller Trading, Save Mart – north and south, Mario’s Auto Body, Big O Tires, Dr. Schlager, and Carol Bales.

Our raffle prizes where donated by Gold Dust West, Wild Island, Eagle Fitness, Carson Hot Springs, Galaxy Theaters, Buckle, Robert Rumbaugh Construction, and Richard Staub – Carson City Board of Supervisors.

A special thank you to Mark and Jamie Holmes, Jean Bailey and Laurie Miller for leading the food and decorations committees.

To the staff and administration at Carson Middle School including Mr. Santillo, Mrs. Powers, Ms. Ortega, Mrs. Haas, Mrs. Quilici, Mr. Beaudette, Mrs. Ellison, Mr. Miller, Mr. Maaghop, Mr. Ruiz, and Mrs. Ochoa.

Those who honored, supported troops thanked

From the volunteers of the local Operation First Response chapter, to our Carson City mayor, our supervisors (most especially our liaison Supervisor Shelly Aldean), our Nevada businesses, sponsors, volunteers, and finally to those people that attended the first “Carson City Honors Our Troops and Supports Our Wounded Heroes” weekend events, a big thank you.

We raised more than $15,000 to help our troops and their families. We have been told that for a first year event to even break even is remarkable, and we did better than that.

We have received many phone calls and e-mails from our senior troop members, as well as our active troop members. They have all expressed their thanks and appreciation to us. Many of them have told us it was the first time they felt the community had thanked them for their service to our country and welcomed them home.

For those of you reading this and wondering “what can I do to help, or I want to contribute,” can be reached at our Operation First Response phone number: 884-1989, or at 884-3381.

We also have an e-mail address, ofr@sbcglobal.net. Our immediate focus is on filling welcome home tote bags for our local VA Hospital in Reno. Our liaison at the VA hospital has called us a number of times about how badly they need more of those bags for our troops ASAP.

Again, thanks to each and everyone of you for your support to our service men and women in uniform.
