Carson City to look for intoxicated motorists

Nevada Appeal staff report

As the warmer weather starts to fade, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is focusing on watching for more motorists on the road who may choose to drink and ride.

In a press release, the Sheriff’s Office said it will see a lot of people in Northern Nevada riding their motorcycles now before the weather gets cooler, and wants to remind riders to not drink and ride.

“With Street Vibrations on the horizon, now is a good time to think about the consequences of riding while intoxicated,” said Sgt. Scott McDaniel in the press release. “Increased alcohol levels in the driver’s blood, leads to diminished mental and motor reactions which, in turn, reduce the driver’s ability to control a motorized vehicle. This significantly increases the risk of the rider committing errors of judgment and often results in crashes causing severe injuries and even death.”

McDaniel said riders need to keep their focus on the road and be aware of their surroundings, and by staying free of intoxicants riders can keep their reflexes sharp to avoid unseen hazards in the roadway or errant drivers.
