Yerington man dies Monday in single vehicle rollover

Nevada Appeal staff report

A 58-year-old Yerington man died Monday night after a single vehicle rollover accident that occurred on State Route 208 near mile marker 26 south of Yerington.

Nevada Highway Patrol unites responded about 7 p.m. to a crash that killed Mark Allen Thorpe, 58, of Yerington. The investigation indicates that Thorpe's 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling East on SR 208 approaching mile marker 26 when for unknown reasons the vehicle drifted off the roadway and onto the south shoulder. Thorpe overcorrected back across both travel lanes and the north shoulder and into a field where it struck an irrigation pipe and overturned. Thorpe was ejected from his vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington where he died. It appears Thorpe was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, based on the investigation.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor as a cause of this accident. The accident is still under investigation.

Troopers Richard O'Dowd and Doug Kassebaum of the Nevada Highway Patrol Yerington Office are investigating this accident.
