Dozens attend ‘Justice for Trayvon’ march in Vegas
LAS VEGAS — About 70 people gathered for a “Justice for Trayvon” march on the Las Vegas Strip over the acquittal of George Zimmerman in Trayvon Martin’s shooting death in Florida.
The group gathered Tuesday night outside the Brass Lounge on Fremont Street and marched along Las Vegas Boulevard. Many carried signs and hooded sweatshirts in honor of Martin.
Zimmerman was acquitted over the weekend of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in Martin’s 2012 death in Sanford, Fla.
The acquittal has inspired “Justice For Trayvon” protests across the country. Most have been peaceful, although vandalism and violence have occurred in Los Angeles.
The Rev. Al Sharpton announced Tuesday he’ll lead a national “Justice for Trayvon” day in 100 cities this weekend to press for federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman.
