The Sierra Lutheran High School Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 19 new members on Sept. 14.

The program, which now has 33 members, started in the fall of 2013. The chapter has completed 420 hours of community service; it plans on reaching 1,080 hours by the end of the school year.

The chapter focuses on helping local families, particularly those with large medical bills. The group has held four major group fundraisers, raising more than $12,200 in donations.

New music club started at Carson City school

Silver State Charter School has started a new music club open to everyone — regardless of their ability to play an instrument — and students are encouraged to try something new and teach other members.

The club is made possible by a grant from the Junior League of Las Vegas. Donations are being accepted to expand and buy more instruments. Volunteers from the community are also sought to teach club members how to play instruments.
