Edwin A. Blanchard
A memorial service for Ed Blanchard will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley, Carson City.
Edwin A. Blanchard passed away March 23, 2008, in Carson City. He was 77 years old. Ed was born November 15, 1930 in Reno to Rubin and Thelma Blanchard and was a lifelong resident of Nevada. Ed and his young family moved from Reno to Carson City in 1960.
Ed was a very active member of the Carson City Host Lion’s Club for over 26 years and was a Life Member of the Blind Center of Nevada, Camp-Dat-So-La-Lee for Underprivileged Children, and was Lion of the Year in 2002-2003. Ed received the distinguished Melvin Jones Fellow award from Lions Club International for his dedicated service.
Carson City Chamber of Commerce honored Ed with a Citizen of the Years award for 1994-1995.
Ed served on the Nevada Day Committee for over 26 years and was recognized for his dedication and service to Carson City with Resolution No. 1999-R-20 in 1999. U.S. Senator Richard Bryan presented him with a Senatorial Recognition in 2000.
Ed was a life member of the Carson Elks Lodge No. 2177.
The City of Carson honored several dedicated Fair and Recreation Committee members in 1974. This committee was instrumental in the development of Eagle Valley Golf Course and a new Community Center. Ed’s name is one of those appearing on the dedication plaque at the Carson City Community Center.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean conflict.
Ed loved camping at Tahoe Timber Trails just outside of Truckee, Calif. and restoring old clocks.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Marie. They were married Jan. 15, 1955 in Sparks. He leaves behind a son Don Blanchard and his wife, Judy of Gardnerville; a daughter Lynda Anderson and her husband, Steve of Carson City; a brother Richard Blanchard, and his wife, Fusa of Henderson; sister, Dorothy Stevenson and her husband, Steve of Sparks; three grandchildren, Chris Anderson and his wife, Sarah of Carson City; Jeremy Carsten and his wife Sarit of San Antonio, Texas and Heather Blanchard of Gardnerville. A great-grandchild is on the way.
