The performing arts class at Carson High School presents Fairytale Theatre, a 17-year tradition in theater for children and their families.

This year’s production, “Sahara Nights,” is a pop-culture spoof and lighthearted comedy.

Scheherazade is auditioning for the new position of Royal Entertainer, but what she’s really trying to do is get her friend Aladdin out of the dungeon. A quick thinker, she creates captivating stories to gain time.

“Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” becomes “Ali Baba and the Forty-Niners,” with a disgruntled football team as some of the characters; “The Adventures of Sinbad” becomes a Star Trek-inspired spoof with Captain Kork and Mr. Spork; and lastly, the “Emperor’s New Clothes” deals with the “King” himself, Elvis, and his advisors, the Beatles.

There is one public performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday. All performances are at the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson Community Center.

There is no admission charge but donations at the door will be gratefully accepted. For more information, call 775 230-8919 or e-mail at boxoffice@carson .K12.nv.us.
