Fire crews battle blaze near Mud Lake
Five hand crews, one aircraft and numerous engines have been ordered to help battle the China Spring fire burning in south Douglas County since 1 p.m. Sunday.
The fire was estimated at 200 to 250 acres and is burning west of the Carson River near Mud Lake south of Gardnerville.
The fire is burning in steep inaccessible terrain but no structures were involved or threatened as of late Sunday night.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No estimate of containment was given.
Though aircraft to battle the blaze are expected this morning, none were available at the start of the fire Sunday.
Fire fuels include pinon, juniper, brush and grass and the area is critical winter deer habitat.
Crews from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service and Douglas County were on scene Sunday. Hand crews from the Nevada Division of Forestry will join the fight first thing this morning.
