A Douglas High School graduate who was killed along with his wife in their Washington home March 2 will be remembered Sunday during a military service at Douglas High School.
Tami Gray, mother of slain soldier Staff Sgt. Timothy Miller, a 1998 Douglas High graduate, said her son lived his life full of love.
“He was a such a loving, caring son,” she said. “He cared about everybody, and he loved his daughter.”
Timothy, 27, and Randi Miller, 25, were shot and killed in their home outside Fort Lewis, Wash. Both were decorated medics in the U.S. Army.
Their 6-month-old daughter, Kassidy, is with Timothy’s mother and stepfather, Randy Gray, in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
Timothy Miller joined the military straight out of high school. He became an operating room specialist and served in the Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, where he met Randi, and then served in South Korea before being stationed at Fort Lewis in 2003.
Sgt. Randi Miller, from New Hampshire, graduated from George Washington University and became a lab technician for the Army. The couple married, moved to Washington, then went to Iraq.
In 2006, Timothy and Randi Miller served in the 47th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq.
Timothy Miller earned the Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal for his service.
On March 3, the Army posthumously promoted Miller to staff sergeant, a status that will be reflected on all military documents and his burial marker.
A military service for the couple will be 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Douglas High School. A military burial for Sgt. Timothy Miller will follow the service at East Side Memorial Park on Buckeye Road. Randi Miller will be buried in New Hampshire.
A reception at Bently Science Park will take place after the burial.
