Carson City gas prices stay near $3 here, nationally
Nevada’s average pump price for gasoline averaged $3.19 per gallon, according to a survey website, a drop over the past week of less than a penny per gallon.
The pump price average both statewide and across the nation declined 0.6 of a cent, but there was a wide divergence between the two as usual, according to GasBuddy.com. The website reported Monday nationally its survey on Sunday showed the average was $2.77 a gallon or 42 cents lower than the Nevada average.
The website reported the national average was 88.5 cents per gallon cheaper than a year ago while the Silver State average was 68.9 cents below the year earlier cost.
“Retail gas prices follow the general direction of crude oil most of the time,” said Gregg Laskoski, website petroleum analyst, “and our benchmark crude, West Texas intermediate, closed last week heading lower.” He said it was $55.47, well below the $62 per barrel peak of earlier this year.
In Carson City, according to the website, gasoline pump prices on Monday at the two lowest cost outlets were closer to the national than the statewide cost. At Costco and Eagle Gas, both on the city’s south side, the price was posted as $2.79 a gallon. The former is at 700 Old Clear Creek Road, the latter at 1360 S. Carson St.
