NDF has grants for fire fuel reduction
The Nevada Division of Forestry has an estimated $500,000 available for projects to reduce the risk of wildfires and damage in wildland/urban interface areas.
A spokesman said the federal funds are from the National Fire Plan and the U.S. Forest Service-Cooperative Forest Fire Program. The grants can be used for costs of implementing fuel reduction projects, information and education, homeowner and community action projects. The projects must be on state and/or private lands. Federal lands projects are not eligible.
He said private citizens, homeowner associations, local governments, state agencies and non-profit groups are all eligible for grants.
The applications must be submitted on the form on the NDF website at http://forestry.nv.gov/fire-program/state-fire-assistance-program/.
The deadline for applications is 5 p.m., April 30. More information is available from Ryan Shane at 684-2511.
