NHP ups enforcement of ‘move over’ law
The Nevada Highway Patrol is planning to focus on enforcement of the “Move Over” law.
Trooper Matt McLaughlin said that 2003 law requires drivers to slow and, when possible, move to the far lane when passing emergency response vehicles at the side of the road with flashing emergency lights. That includes law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances and tow trucks.
And beginning last summer, the law was expanded to include Transportation Department vehicles stopped at the roadside.
He said first responders are killed every year when motorists fail to slow down and move over. He said the increased enforcement will happen not only in metropolitan areas but the rural communities as well.
NHP, he said, will be issuing tickets to violators.
