Hawkins Foundation donates lights and sound for amphitheater

by staff

The Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation has donated $200,000 to Washoe County to provide lighting and sound systems at the Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch Regional Park.

The park is off Lakeside Drive just below Windy Hill at the south end of Reno.

County officials said the announcement by foundation chairman Bill Wallace surprised the commission and staff. In addition to sound and lights, the money will pay for draping and rigging for the stage.

The foundation donated more than $1 million to design and build the 400-seat amphitheater which opened last August.
