Health Inspections: Jan. 13

The following health inspections are for the period of Dec. 29 to Jan. 4:

• The Cracker Box Restaurant, 402 E. William St., scored 90 points. Observed one cook repeatedly perform the following duties: dispense raw sausages and bacon with bare hands onto the grill, handle food containers to restock the toppings containers, crack unpasteurized shell eggs into the grill, wipe hands on apron and dispense ready-to-eat toppings (cheese) with bare hands. After becoming aware that the health inspector was observing him, he began to dip his hands in the sanitizer bucket between some of these food prep activities. The chlorine concentration in the cloth bucket is at 200 ppm. There is no hand-washing being performed by either grill cook. Bottles of sauces block access to the corner hand sink. Refer to violation No. 31 for blocking access to a hand sink. Prepared foods in the kitchen reach-in are not labeled as to contents and dates prepared. Found raw chicken stored over other meats in two refrigerators that require lower cooking temperatures, or require no cooking before serving. Found improper thawing of meats in the kitchen. Several toppings have no utensils available for dispensing them. Surfaces inside the ice machine need cleaning.

• Playa Azul Restaurant, 415 E. William St., scored 98 points. Numerous containers of sauces produced on site are without proper labels. (Note: Some other prepared foods are properly labeled.) Some foods in the refrigerated units are not properly covered. Found a plate being used to dispense shredded cheese from a large container in the walk-in.

• Bully’s Restaurant, 3530 N. Carson St., scored 95 points. The ice machine in the hall area of the kitchen needs cleaning. A supply of paper towels is not present in the hand sink used by the serving staff and the bartenders.

• Bully’s Bar/Lounge, 3530 N. Carson St., scored 98 points. Bar mats holding clean glassware need cleaning underneath. Speed gun nozzles and holsters need cleaning to remove buildup of biofilm.

• Burger King #8744, 3589 N. Carson St., scored 100 points.

• B’Sghettis Restaurant, 318 N. Carson St., scored 83 points. Found staff member eating bread stored just above prep table while preparing food. (Note: Drinking cup is not properly covered.) Hand-washing sinks are not convenient or accessible. Found the only kitchen hand sink blocked by food being thawed in the basin. Foods prepared on site are not labeled as required. Found several pans of food with the bottoms stored in direct contact on top of other pans of prepared vegetables. Some pans of prepared foods in the walk-in need to be covered. Found a tub of ice cream with the lid removed. Found packages of spinach thawing in the only kitchen hand sink. Found cup being used to dispense grated cheese stored in the cheese. Found tongs laying in the prepared lettuce in the salad bin. Hood over grill is missing a section of baffles. Light shields need cleaning and light bulbs need replacing under this hood to provide adequate lighting in this area of the kitchen. No sanitizer bucket is set up to store wet wiping cloths being used at a prep area. Found ice scoop at the drink station stored in a dirty container.

• B’Sghettis Bar/Lounge, 318 N. Carson St., scored 94 points. There is no drain hose attached to the speed gun holster located at the entrance to the bar. The container holding the ice scoop is not clean. A supply of paper towels is not present at the hand sink.

• Bella Fiore Wines Restaurant, 224 S. Carson St. #8, scored 100 points.

• Gold Dust West Carson City Restaurant, 2171 Hwy. 50 E., scored 100 points.

• Jimboy’s Tacos #195 Restaurant, 2190 Hwy. 50 E., scored 98 points. There is no thermometer in the taco make-up reach-in. A towel is being used to soak up water inside this unit. Ice scoop is not stored properly.

• Tito’s Restaurant, 444 E. William St., scored 100 points.

• Tito’s Bar/Lounge, 444 E. William St., scored 100 points.

• El Pollo Loco Restaurant, 1923 Hwy. 50 E., scored 100 points.

• Save Mart Supermarkets #551 Retail Grocery, 4348 S. Carson St., scored 99 points. The floors in the women’s restroom were not maintained in good repair. There were several splits in the floor allowing debris to collect.

• Save Mart Supermarkets #551 Seafood Department, 4348 S. Carson St., scored 100 points.

• Save Mart Supermarkets #551 Produce Department, 4348 S. Carson St., scored 100 points.

• Save Mart Supermarkets #551 Meat Department, 4348 S. Carson St., scored 100 points.
