Historic structures seeking grants
The Stewart Indian School, the Fourth Ward School and Piper’s Opera House are among several historical structures seeking grants from the state Commission for Cultural Affairs.
Statewide, there are $8.7 million in requests to preserve historical structures in Nevada – but just $2.1 million available.
After the commission meets Thursday and Friday, many of the 30 organizations that have sent in grant requests may go away empty-handed or with a lot less than what they requested.
The Urban Indian Consortium wants $695,180 for renovation of some of the old Stewart Indian School buildings in Carson City.
The Virginia City requests include one for $414,263 for the old Fourth Ward School; and $449,300 for Piper’s Opera House.
