Jim Mitchell

A celebration of life for Jim Mitchell, 66, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hampton Inn, 5500 Newton Road.

Mr. Mitchell died April 6, 2007, while skiing on Crystal Mountain, Wash. He was born Jan. 12, 1941, in Philadelphia, to James and Kathryn Mitchell.

He completed high school at Malvern Prep in Pennsylvania and received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley.

He later earned a bachelor’s degree in soil science from the University of Nevada and a master’s in engineering from the University of Washington.

He was an engineer, wetland biologist and soil scientist through his own private consulting firm.

He enjoyed skiing and was a founding member of the Far West Professional Ski Patrol Association, now known as the Association of Professional Patrollers. He served on the professional ski patrols at Mammoth Mountain and Alpine Meadows in California; Big Mountain in Montana; and Whistler in British Columbia. He also served as the director of avalanche safety at Whistler.

He also enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, fly-fishing and his malamute Frosty.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Dee Mitchell; and daughter, CiCi Mitchell.
