Jo Dean Overstreet

Jo Dean Overstreet, 78, a Carson City resident for the past 17 years, died Nov. 13, 2004, at her home. She was born March 11, 1926, in Davidson, Okla., to Joe C. and Meta Tyson.
She attended Oklahoma City University, majoring in piano.
She married James M. Overstreet Jr. of Florida in 1945.
Mrs. Overstreet worked for the Florida National Banking Group beginning in 1952 as a teller. In 1974, she became the first woman to be elected cashier in that group. In 1978, she was the first woman elected senior vice president, cashier and secretary to the board of directors. She retired in 1987 after more than 35 years.
She was active in civic and professional organizations, serving as president and Woman of the Year of the American Business Women’s Association, Miami Civitan Club, Junior Achievement and member, Board of Directors, South Florida Chapter, Leukemia Society of America. She taught banking classes for Miami/Dade Community College and was a longtime member of the American Institute of Banking, also serving on that board of directors. She was active in the National Association of Bank Women, serving as president of the Miami group and in 1982 as Florida state president. She was a frequent guest speaker as well as organizer of banking and motivational seminars.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years in March 2000. She has no survivors.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry’s Funeral Home with inurnment at a later date in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
