Journey with ‘The King and I’
Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company continues this weekend with a production of the popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, “The King and I.”‘
The Tony Award-winning musical follows the adventures of a British teacher, Anna, and her son who, in 1862, move to Siam to tutor the many children of the country’s king. The two strong-willed leads struggle in a clash of cultures but ultimately form a partnership of equals.
“You will fall in love with these characters,” said Stephanie Arrigotti, the show’s director and producer who runs the performing arts program at Western Nevada College. “The leads are extraordinary.”
The show plays at the Carson City Community Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Nov. 20-21; and at 2 p.m. Nov. 15, 21 and 22. Tickets are $20 general admission, $18 for seniors and students. and $16 ages 17 years old and under. Call 445-4249 or go to http://www.wnmtc.com/.
Season tickets for the theater company’s 2010 season will be on sale at the performances.
In February, WNMTC is kicking off the next season with “Opening Night on Broadway,” a revue of current Broadway productions. In May, the group will stage “The Sound Of Music,” and in November the new production of “White Christmas.”
