Kidnapping suspects sought

Sheriff’s deputies are still looking for two men suspected in an attempted kidnapping Tuesday.

The suspects, described as Hispanic in their 20s – one with a goatee – tried to grab a 17-year-old girl in the parking lot of a store near the 3600 block of South Carson Street, said Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Bernie Curtis.

The girl, who worked at a supermarket where the incident occurred, was retrieving shopping carts when the men grabbed her and tried to drag her into a brown van with a white stripe, according to reports.

After a short struggle, she was able to break free and run into the store where she called sheriff’s deputies. She suffered minor cuts, Curtis said.

Using information from a description submitted by the girl, a computer-generated composite of one of her attackers was created and released. She did not see the other man clearly enough for a complete description, according to reports.

Lance Modispacher, spokesman for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, said reports that surfaced in Douglas County of an attempted abduction of an 8-year-old a couple months ago were likely fabricated, but parents need to be aware of potential danger.

“We do a lot of education through the schools to teach kids about dealing with strangers,” he said. “When we have a scare, schools will do a refresher, especially with the holidays coming.”

Modispacher said criminals are more active during the holiday season.
