A most Merry Christmas to you

Yes, Christmas is finally here, and my whole house smells like cinnamon rolls and coffee. I was gently awakened by a sweet chocolate Lab smooch. Not exactly my idea of a Christmas morning kiss, but looking into Watson’s golden eyes I couldn’t resist giving him a big hug. How wonderful it was to hop out of the bed and run out to the tree. After plugging in the lights, I hurried to get the cinnamon rolls baking and coffee made.

Christmas is such a lovely time to enjoy the simple pleasures of being together. The angel on our Christmas tree is a yellow Labrador. She has graced our tree for 20 years. Our manger scene has a few extra characters because there are two yellow Labradors, two calico cats and a brown Labrador. It makes my smile to see the collection of animals surrounding the manger.

Christmas is also my time to count blessings. My husband is of course the first on my list, but Watson is right up there too. I think about the way blessings come to me, and I remember my friend Pauline telling me about a lovely boy dog at CAPS I had to meet. She was right; our lives are lots richer because of Watson.

One blessing for our community is CAPS where animals get a second chance. I love CAPS!

I hope your life is rich and full of blessings this Christmas. Please know that the entire CAPS community thanks each and everyone for the donations and support you have shown us. As Tiny Tim says in A Christmas Carol, “God bless us all, everyone.” Have a very Merry Christmas!

WHO’S WHO AT CAPS?

Janet Swan is Who’s Who this week. She and her adorable standard poodle named Dougie are regulars at our Fallon Dog Park. Janet is the ultimate good citizen because she spends much of her time at the dog park picking up pooch poop.

All of the dog park regulars owe Janet a big round of applause for her dedication to a clean pup park. A big paws up to you!

WHO’S NEW AT THE CAPS’ ZOO?

Bella, a Lab cross, is two and one-half years old. She is a beautiful black girl with a white chest. If you are looking for a Frisbee or ball partner you have found your girl. Bella loves to play and she would be thrilled if you would come by for a game of ball or Frisbee. Stop by soon, and she’ll awe you with her enthusiasm.

We have two adorable four-month-old puppies, one female and one male, looking for a home. We also have six male and 18 female kitties ready for new homes. Make this a holiday to remember with a new pet to enjoy life with. Policy, however, prohibits adopting out puppies or kittens under the age of six months to a home with children under five years of age. This is to protect both the children and the animal.

CAPS’ NEWS AND EVENTS

The 2016 Happy Endings calendar can also be purchased at the Flower Tree Nursery. Don’t delay because, at the time I wrote this, there were only five left.

Flower Tree Nursery is again raffling a 15-gallon tree. The drawing date is March 15 and the winner doesn’t have to be present to win. Raffle tickets are available at Flower Tree Nursery, and they are $1 for one ticket and $5 for six tickets. Thanks to the Bailey Family for their continued support of CAPS.

CAPS will be at Walmart in the New Year, along with Ki and Urtle at our Kissin’ Booth.

Be sure to watch this column for the date. Please come by and give our boys a big hug and kiss. We have hoodies, sweatshirts and caps, so please check them out before or after greeting our canine volunteers.

CAPS’ mailing address is P.O. Box 5128, Fallon, NV 89407. CAPS’ phone number is
