Churchill County High School music students competed at the recently held Washoe/Northern Zone Solo and Ensemble Festival competition in Reno with four Command Performance Designees receiving the highest honor for musicians from Northern Nevada.

Music director Tom Fleming said all Northern Nevada schools are named as Command Performance Designees —the highest honor for musicians — in 16 music categories such as female vocal solo, upper woodwind solo, string ensembles and so on.

“Command Performance Designees record videos of their performances,” Fleming pointed out. “The videos of the Northern and Southern (Las Vegas) designees will then be adjudicated by music professionals from each category. The judges then select the very best from Nevada to perform in the Nevada All-State Command Performance Concert, which is on April 15 in Las Vegas.”

Fleming said 575 high-school sole and ensemble events attended the festival. CCHS had four Command Performance Designees:

The 13-member CCHS Vocal Ensemble (Vocal Ensemble category): Sopranos Rebekah Orozco, McKenna Dewey and Adia Sommer; altos Elena Sorensen, AmiDayne Nelsen and Haley Lindsay; tenors Eric Sorensen, Eric Sabatino and Raymond Plasse; basses Joseph Sorensen, Jefrey Horne, Davis Benecke and Kyle Reed-Mason
