CEDA breakfast features workforce development symposium
The Churchill Economic Development Authority offers a twist to its monthly breakfast on Wednesday morning.
A presentation on technology and workforce development in the community will be hosted by the Churchill County Library and features a symposium of speakers beginning at 6:45 a.m.

CEDA, the library and Western Nevada College recently received grant money from the Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology
The library is receiving $46,322 to develop an Information Technology Gateway Training (ITGT) program for Churchill County and surrounding rural areas such as Gabbs and Austin. The Churchill County School District school board agreed last month to pursuit involvement with the Challenge Grant.
Wednesday’s presenters include the following:
Carol Lloyd is director of the Churchill County Library. She headed a major repurpose project at the library that was completed last year. The remodel has allowed for the expansion of services to the community.
Ava Case is manager for Nevada Job Connect, Department of Employment and Training (DETR) for the rural area covering a huge demographic area.
Amber Bixby is branch manager for both the Fernley and Fallon Manpower offices. She encourages her staff, consisting of three Staffing Specialists, to provide the best possible services to both customers and employees.
Georgia White is Western Nevada College’s director of Career and Technical Education. Prior to this position, she was dean of Professional and Technical Education at Central Arizona College.
Michelle Melendy is director at Naval Air Station’s Fallon’s Fleet and Family Support Center. The center provides services such as relocation assistance, new parent support, deployment services, clinical counseling services, financial management counseling, family employment services, family advocacy and the transition assistance programs.
