Community Day offering school resources
July 25, 2017
Free fun and special offerings for all, the sixth annual Fallon Community Day is Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon at Oats Park.
Everything will be complimentary at this community and back-to-school gathering. There will be backpacks and schools supplies available, a clothing giveaway, vaccines and haircuts for school-age children. The get-together will also provide a barbecue, ice cream treat, bounce house, swimming next door and a scavenger hunt, plus numerous organizations will be present to share information and assistance.
"Fallon is a great small-town community filled with sponsors and individuals who simply love to lend a helping hand," said Holly Meader, social services coordinator and event organizer. "No one likes to 'need,' so for the families of Churchill County, it means there is a means to fill a need without an office, paperwork and hassle. This is a fun family event that fills a need while taking the sting out of having a need."
Participating groups include the Elks Club, State of Nevada, Churchill County, city of Fallon, Churchill Community Coalition, Fallon Chamber of Commerce and the SP Counseling Center. Local law enforcement officers and other first responders including a fire truck will also be at the park. Other resources will include schools, Fallon Job Connect, New Frontier Treatment Center and legal advisers.
Unique this year, a community health nurse will be onsite to provide immunizations and help children start school on time, Meader said.
"Children can't learn if they are worried about the things they don't have to take to school," Meader added about the school materials that will be on hand. "We aren't just filling a need, we are fostering their love of learning and investing in our future."
