Fallon and Fernley's Kaia FIT studios and Too Cute Totes are teaming up to offer free Kaia FIT Brik sessions to two lucky women in January.

Karen Scott, owner of Too Cutes Totes, said she came up with the idea of sponsoring the Brik sessions for women who were ready to exercise but may not be able to afford it.

"I felt strongly that it had to be someone who wants to make a change," Scott said. "And I felt it was important to offer it to someone who didn't have the resources."

Scott had crafted special athletic bags given as "Kaia Queen" awards to women who lost the most weight during a Brik session. When Kaia FIT owner Andrea Schell approached Scott to place another order, she said Scott proposed the idea of an exchange.

"She said instead of me paying Too Cute Totes for the bags, she'd like to sponsor two gals to do a Brik," Schell explained. The Brik session costs $199 for new Kaia FIT members.

What made Scott want to sponsor these fitness sessions? The answer lies in her past.

"My entire life I've struggled with my weight," she said. "And I was diabetic with Type II diabetes. But it's curable," she said with a smile.

"I've done Kaia FIT and I love that kind of exercise program. It empowers you, makes you feel strong, it raises your self-esteem. It's amazing how different I feel, and others need a chance to see it too," Scott said, adding that she was able to eliminate her diabetes medication after adhering to a fitness program.

Schell said women can nominate a friend, family member or themselves by simply emailing a short explanation of why they'd like the gift of Kaia FIT.

"Maybe it's because they're recovering from an injury or had a job loss or another reason they can't afford it," Schell said. "I want to have my email flooded."

Schell said applications will be taken during December. The Kaia coaches from Fallon and Fernley will read through entries and choose the winners – one from Fallon and one from Fernley. The next six-week Kaia FIT Brik session starts Jan. 5.

Kaia FIT is a women's only boot camp style fitness program that partners fitness with a supportive teamwork attitude.
