Western Nevada College would like to extend a sincere, heartfelt thank you to the Fallon community for its generous support of the college’s recent Friends of Western Benefit Fundraiser Dinner.

The college is excited that more than 250 guests attended the event April 5. In the crowd were many familiar faces, including members of the Friends of Western Benefit Committee: WNC President Vincent Solis, Angela Viera, Holly O’Toole, Rochelle Tisdale, Marie Nygren, Niki Gladys, Teresa Gehman, Carol Braniff, Heidi Imelli, Desirae Blunt-Lamkey and Diana Enriquez Alanis.

Additionally, Western Nevada College is grateful for the sponsors who made this event possible, including Manpower, Gary and Susan Imelli, Assemblywoman Robin Titus and NSHE Regent Carol Del Carlo, Banner Churchill Community Hospital, Ott’s Farm Equipment, Widmer and Mills CPAs, CC Communications, Comstock Casino, Fallon Nugget, Bonanza Inn & Casino, Ward and Angela Viera, and A & K Earth Movers.

Desirae Blunt-Lamkey Selected Student Worker of the Year

Desirae Blunt-Lamkey has been selected as WNC’s Student Worker of the Year. Desirae is a work-study student in the Fallon campus office.

Blunt-Lamkey will be recognized at the annual ASWN Awards and Appreciation Reception on May 11.

“Desirae is exceptionally dependable and reliable,” said WNC Fallon Campus Support Specialist Angela Viera. “We have a small campus and maintaining coverage for our front desk is critical. She is punctual and communicates well in advance if she is running late. Desirae has exceptional customer service skills as well as making sure that students, faculty, staff, prospective students, and community members receive accurate answers to questions. She is encouraging to students that are frustrated and brings a professionalism to our office that is much appreciated.”

Viera said that Blunt-Lamkey prides herself on staying busy and flourishes when challenged.

Blunt-Lamkey also volunteered to be on the committee to organize the first Friends of Western Benefit Fundraiser earlier this month and is a new member of the Associated Students of Western Nevada, providing Fallon representation that has been missing.

“She is a role model for our other student employees and is a joy to have in the office,” Viera said.
